Despite a calamitous first five years in office, President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta (IBK) sailed through the first round of the presidential election with 42% of the vote amid a flurry of allegations of electoral fraud. Jihadist violence hampered voting in the fiefdoms in Mopti and the north of his chief rival, Soumaïla Cissé, whom he faces in the run-off on 12 August.
