The row over the President’s suspension of the Chief Justice raises doubts over the conduct of this month’s elections

Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen, suspended by President Muhammadu Buhari on 25 January, is fighting for his professional life in a partisan battle that casts a shadow over presidential elections due on 16 February and state elections next month. The Chief Justice, Nigeria's most senior judge, has a lead role in adjudicating on petitions arising from those elections.
