Macky wants first round KO

Having virtually obliterated the opposition, the President is banking on winning the poll in the first round

President Macky Sall may be about to pick up an unlikely gift from an old foe. In protest at the exclusion of his son Karim as a presidential candidate – because of an unpaid fine and non-residence in Senegal – ex-President Abdoulaye Wade has called on supporters of his Parti démocratique sénégalais (PDS) to set fire to ballot boxes to prevent this weekend's vote taking place. Oppositionists fear that the reaction against Wade père's incendiary protest could help the President clinch outright victory in the first round of voting on 24 February.
