Condé bids for third term

The President’s bid for a third term has hit top gear. Can a fractured opposition unite to deny him the constitutional changes he needs?

President Alpha Condé's campaign to change the constitution to get himself a third term has now reached full steam, as he exhorts his party's rank-and-file to 'prepare for battle' although he repeats that his decision to run or not would depend on 'the will of the people'. Following that none-too-subtle hint, huge banners bearing the presidential portrait suddenly appeared on the façade of the Chinese-built Palais du Peuple, which is home to Guinea's Parliament.
