While the jihadists register notable successes and violence increases, attention begins to turn towards the conventional politicians and what they can offer the people in the elections of 2020. So much uncertainty reigns that the despised dictator, Blaise Compaoré, chased out of the country by mass protests only five years ago, is offering himself as a mediator in its travails.
