Executive exerts its privilege

Despite the fuss over the delayed ministerial appointments, real power will stay in the presidency

Just days after President Muhammadu Buhari allocated the portfolios and swore in his 43 ministers on 21 August, regional leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress started staking their claims to the presidential ticket in the 2023 elections. The breakneck speed at which party factions break up and realign in pursuit of political patronage is in stark contrast to the pace of what more generous commentators call President Buhari's 'deliberative style' of government.
