Magufuli the outlier

Tanzania stands apart from its neighbours in its response to Covid-19. President John Magufuli has resisted imposing blanket restrictions on movement, curfews and other forms of lockdown, insisting that the work of growing the economy must continue. The public are exhorted to restrict their movements, but there is no compulsion, although there is also scant transparency on the extent of infection which may be far larger than admitted.
