Diplomatic hubbub

Kenya will star again as the regional diplomatic centre this year, mediating in two sets of peace talks - Sudan and Somalia - as well as hosting hundreds of thousands of people fleeing from those and other wars in East and Central Africa. Sadly, both peace arrangements are critically flawed and are unlikely to survive the year without huge amounts of outside cajoling and money. Beyond diplomatic kudos, Kenya's motives are different in each case: it worries about instability spillover across the border and among the Somali politicos who reside in Kenya.
