The dramatic farce in Bayelsa State is about money, not local patriotism

'Thank heaven for the return of our father,' sang several thousand supporters of the Bayelsa State Governor, Diepreye Solomon Alamieyeseigha, on 21 November, the morning of his return to Yenagoa. Others zoomed motorcycles down the state capital's sole thoroughfare. Alamieyeseigha, who had just jumped bail from Britain on charges of handling US$3 million in stolen Nigerian state funds, said 'God brought me here' and denied that he had dressed up as a woman.
