Ambitious politicians and their supporters do battle with the judiciary

SOUTH AFRICA: The political caravan starts with the trial of sacked Deputy President Jacob Zuma on rape charges in February, immediately followed by local government elections in March and then Zuma's return to the courts in July to face charges of fraud and corruption (AC Vol 46 No 24). These three events will all test the strength of the governing African National Congress.
