Leaders bearing gifts, a bad start to the year for diamond giant De Beers and those Economic Partnership Agreements

World Bank President Robert Zoellick, followed closely by United States President George Bush and French President Nicolas Sarkozy, led the procession of Western leaders on their pilgrimages to Africa with gifts in hand in January and February. Zoellick's tour took him to Mauritania on 27 January, then to Liberia, then to Addis Abba, Ethiopia, for the African Union's summit on 31 January-2 February, terminating in Mozambique.
