Lomé minus Lomé

President Gnassingbé Eyadéma's latest round of fraudulent elections, held on 21 March, could provoke Togo's suspension from the European Union's preferential trade treaty known as the Lomé IV agreement. The EU suspended aid after last June's equally fraudulent presidential elections when security agents took over the counting of the votes from the electoral commission (AC Vol 39 No 14).
