Getting their own back

Bulelani Ngcuka, South Africa’s former National Public Prosecutor and boss of the Scorpions anti-corruption investigators, is the man most hated by African National Congress President Jacob Zuma and his supporters. He is also likely to be the first Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) casualty of the ANC’s internal quarrels. We understand that, along with his wife, National Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, he is also one of those scrutinised in the Chancellor House probe (AC Vol 49 No 5). They are close allies of President Thabo Mbeki, who regarded Phumzile as a potential successor for the ANC leadership.
