The briefcase tycoon is back

The Triton saga highlights the resurfacing of the Daniel arap Moi-era briefcase tycoon - young, brash and politically protected. Kenyan politicians prefer to work with Asian-origin businessmen: the ideal combination is a small-time player with good financial connections who has kept well away from local politics. Such deals tend to go awry when the small-time player becomes a national business figure and a target for political enemies.
