By gaoling opposition journalists, President Yahya Jammeh makes himself look insecure. The President, who seized power as a mere lieutenant fifteen years ago, now entitles himself President Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh, according to the State House website. Since 1994, three presidential and parliamentary elections have increased Jammeh's share of the vote and consolidated his power, which is reinforced not only by the ubiquitous National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and various shadowy paramilitary organisations, but also by unpredictable reshuffles at the top.
