Abbey's all clear

The recommendation by Abbey Chikane, a monitor for the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme for diamonds, that Zimbabwe be allowed to resume exports from the much contested Marange fields may strip the last vestiges of credibility from the KPCS. Chikane was evidently under pressure: the Marange diamond fields are reputedly the richest in the world and Mines Minister Obert Mpofu estimates that exports from the field are worth US$1.2-1.8 billion a year.
