Cranswick and Marange

A key player in the Marange diamond fields dispute, businessman Andrew Cranswick, has been declared bankrupt in Australia after failing to pay a tax demand of Aus$1.1 million (US$1.07 mn.). Cranswick is the Chief Executive of African Consolidated Resources (ACR), which held some of the original licences to exploit Marange diamonds from 2006, before the government seized them. In 2009, the High Court in Harare ruled in Cranswick's favour but then, against him (AC Vol 51 No 23).
