Don’t be vague, let’s go to the Hague

A day after Prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo’s 15 December naming of the six people wanted by the International Criminal Court, Kenya’s Parliament was debating a private member’s bill. It was brought by William Ruto’s ally, Isaac Ruto (no relation), and proposed the withdrawal of Kenya from the Rome Statute which founded the ICC. The bill follows a last-minute bid by the cabinet to stop Ocampo from publicly naming the six. Isaac Ruto’s bill seeks to stop the Court’s investigations and try any suspects at a special local tribunal (AC Vol 50 No 15).
