Obame: no, he can’t

An oppositionist enjoys his moment in Libreville’s limelight but has no options once the curtain falls

André Mba Obame is in no hurry to leave the small offices of the United Nations Development Programme in Libreville, where he has been holed up since 29 January, having declared himself President and sworn in his own government on 25 January. President Ali Ben Bongo Ondimba appears intent on dealing with Obame by ignoring him. The government dissolved the Union nationale, the party of AMO, as he styles himself in tribute to Côte d’Ivoire’s Alassane Dramane Ouattara (ADO), and charged him with treason. The Conseil National de la Communication has closed his television station, known as TV+.
