After Macky Sall’s presidential victory, the judiciary are targetting many of his predecessor’s business and religious friends

No witch-hunt. That was Macky Sall’s message after he won a resounding mandate with two-thirds of the vote in the presidential run-off in March. Now he hopes he has extended his popularity and that of his broad coalition, Benno Bokk Yakaar, in the parliamentary elections on 1 July. Early results indicate that the party won at least 90 of the 150 seats. The commanding lead was not unexpected, given that former President Abdoulaye Wade’s Parti démocratique sénégalais (PDS) has spent most of the past three months tearing itself apart.
