Make mine a mine

Foreign mining companies await clarification of the regulations after a bill goes before Parliament next month. The mining bill will also open the door to direct ownership by companies owned by the elite of the governing Frente de Libertação de Moçambique. The US$11 billion of foreign direct investment in mines and infrastructure is a tempting opportunity for those Frelimo leaders with interests in holding companies and minority shares in joint ventures with foreign companies.
