Diamond votes

The death in a car accident of Edward Chindori-Chininga, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Mining and Minerals, came within days of its damning report on revenue losses. His death deprives Parliament of one of its more independent spirits. The sensitivity of the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) to the Committee’s report points to the key role that illicit diamond revenues have played in boosting its election campaign coffers this year.
