Sakunda fuels rumours

Takeover rumours surround the well-connected energy company Sakunda as its role in supporting ZANU-PF comes under ever greater scrutiny

Sakunda Energy, the fuel import and distribution company linked to the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front, may be about to be taken over by the major international oil trading company Trafigura, according to sources in Sakunda. Senior members of ZANU-PF have long been associated with oil interests and Sakunda is one of the most successful. It was involved in the massive import of maize from Zambia before Zimbabwe’s recent general elections and is also managing a major fuel deal with Malawi. Trafigura said, ‘We don’t comment on potential acquisitions'.
