Changing the constitution

After two seats controversially changed hands, the governing All People’s Congress (APC) is just one seat short of a two-thirds majority in Parliament. That’s the vote needed, if backed by a referendum, to change the constitution. Constituencies 5 and 15 lie in the eastern stronghold of the opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party and both SLPP candidates there won by wide margins. However, on 25 November, Justice Adeliza Showers ruled that the two had stood in defiance of an injunction issued before the November 2012 elections last year.
