Compassion fatigue

In 1984 BBC journalist Michael Buerk made a powerful television film of Ethiopia's 'biblical famine'. In an anniversary film this month, Buerk concluded things had not improved ­ and upset even those Ethiopians who don't like Premier Meles Zenawi's government. Things have in fact got better, though the food supply is still fragile (AC Vol 45 No 1).
