Clinton likes it

There's still lots of interest but little foreign money going into Kabila's new order

'Clinton likes the Congolese revolution,' President Laurent- Désiré Kabila exclaimed on state television on 26 March, after meeting in Uganda with the United States' President during his six-stop tour of Africa. That seems an optimistic interpretation of Bill Clinton's diplomatic demeanour. Kabila did make up, though, with Clinton's democracy envoy, Reverend Jesse Jackson, whom he had previously refused to see. Kabila went on to say that some of the other US officials had been 'very demanding'. These included Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, who accused Kabila of doing little to promote national unity.
