The last straw

Any escalation of the tit-for-tat expulsions of diplomats after the 4 March attack on the Pretoria home of the exiled Rwandan General Faustin Kayumba Nyamwasa now looks improbable. Following the New Year’s Eve assassination of fellow exile Patrick Karegeya, former spy chief and Rwanda National Congress (RNC) oppositionist, the attack proved the last straw for the Pretoria government. It promptly expelled four Rwandan diplomats and one Burundian, who it said had helped Rwanda. Kigali sent home six South African diplomats.
