On fire

There have been rebellious stirrings again, enough to send President Idriss Déby scurrying off to Taiwan in search of a reward for recognising China's rival last June. A few weeks ago, troops of the 5,000-strong, Zakhawa and Gorane Garde Républicaine, which is supposed to protect the President, set fire to their Ndjamena garrison. At the end of August, most of the Borogat contingent abandoned the GR.
