My enemy's enemy

The leader of the Resistência Nacional Moçambicana, Afonso Dhlakama, may well stand in October's presidential election as part of a deal reached with President Armando Guebuza, Africa Confidential understands. Dhlakama is believed to be in hiding in the Gorongosa area, where electoral registration cannot be completed because of fighting by Renamo. However, the governing Frente de Libertação de Moçambique wants him to stand in the polls in order to split the anti-Frelimo vote (AC Vol 55 No 5, Frelimo picks a candidate).
