The third eleven enters the contest

At talks in Addis Ababa about forming an interim government in South Sudan, some are pinning their hopes on a group of eleven politicians, most of whom were ministers until they were sacked by President Salva Kiir Mayardit last July. That reshuffle was widely seen as a response to local and Western criticism of inefficiency and corruption and enjoyed popularity in Juba. Despite such criticism, many think the group could bring together the two sides in the conflict, which are increasingly polarised, ethnically and politically.
