The region rumbles

President Thabo Mbeki is trying to limit the fall-out from Zimbabwe's troubles

South Africa's policy on Zimbabwe's crisis has been run entirely by President Thabo Mbeki and officials in the enlarged presidency. The department of Foreign Affairs has been sidelined. Foreign Minister Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, formerly Minister of Health and a close Mbeki associate, is concentrating efforts on Congo-Kinshasa. The President's strategy is a 'quietly, quietly approach, which at the moment is working well We will not abandon it', says the Deputy Director-General of Foreign Affairs, Welile Nhlapo.
