Spies and counter-spies

South African President Thabo Mbeki's position on Zimbabwe has toughened considerably since the arrest of a South African counterintelligence officer in December 2004 (AC Vol 46 No 2). The officer, whom Pretoria has declined to name, was lured across the border from Livingstone, Zambia, into Zimbabwe and then apprehended by Central Intelligence Organisation officers.
