Abacha's verdict

Ken Saro-Wiwa was a dangerous separatist 'who presented himself as an environmentalist and human rights activist before the international community', who was guilty of heinous crimes that demanded the ultimate sanction if stability in Nigeria's volatile oil-producing Niger Delta were to be restored. That was the verdict of the all-military Provisional Ruling Council (PRC), which authorised his killing on 8 November 1995.
