Just as Western governments begin to note the regime's lack of financial transparency, the ruling National Islamic Front-National Congress has another bonanza. On 6 February, Kuwait-based Mobile Telecommunications Company (MTC) paid a staggering US$1.33 billion for the part it didn't own of Mobile Telephone Co. Limited (Mobitel) - the 61 per cent share held by Sudan Telecommunications Co. (Sudatel), the main landline supplier.
