The government wants to sort out its mining concessions and the investors are nervous

At last, the bargaining can begin. The government has given the private mining companies details of the terms of the new and renewed contracts that they will be offered. The 61 firms affected have, or hope for, partnerships with Congolese state-sponsored enterprises or with the diamond producer Société Minière de Bakwanga (Miba), of which the state owns 80%. A letter setting out the government's proposals was delivered on 18 February. The fortunes of the state and the companies depend on this process.
