Kinshasa futilely and violently tries to quash the longstanding BDK separatist threat in the west, leaving scores of people dead

Once again, the political-religious cult Bundu dia Kongo has set off a bloody conflict in the province of Bas-Congo, near the mouth of the Congo River. The United Nations mission in Congo reckons that at least 68 people have died since late February, with hundreds injured and almost 300 missing, as troops and police try to keep down the militants of the BDK, which means the 'mystical Kongo union' in the Kikongo language.
