The government's secret sale of Nairobi's Grand Regency Hotel has caused a political storm, induced the resignation of Finance Minister Amos Kimunya on 8 July and raised many unanswered questions (AC Vol 49 No 14). The deal has been labelled a Libyan plot, a scam to make money for leading members of President Mwai Kibaki's Party of National Unity (PNU) and an attempt to defraud taxpayers. The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) and its Governor, Professor Njuguna Ndung'u, have been portrayed as thieves. The press and the opposition Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have had a field-day but is there anything in it at all?
