A fair trial for murderous politicians seems as unlikely as
ever, despite the latest proposal
The effort continues to keep the post-election violence of 2007, and those responsible, out of the International Criminal Court. One favoured way of doing that is to set up a Kenyan special tribunal, so that the Hague-based ICC could decide that the country's legal system had the matter in hand. That attempt had seemed doomed until Gitobu Imanyara, member of parliament from Meru and staunch supporter of Prime Minister Raila Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement, had another try. His new private member's bill, the Constitution of Kenya Amendment Bill 2009, is endorsed by the ODM's two key cabinet members, Odinga himself and Justice Minister Mutula Kilonzo.
