Strange alliances

Political parties are talking about a ‘Democratic Alliance’, combining the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) with rival groups such as Al Wafd, Al Ghad and others within an electoral alliance whose composition is not clear. The number of parties involved swings between 14 and 18. The role of the Salafist parties, which joined the MB in a show of force on Tahrir Square on 29 July, remains murky.
