The jihadists take over

The MNLA has lost out to AQIM and its allies in the north and may now offer its forces to fight them

In a desperate bid to hold itself together, a much weakened Mouvement national pour la libération de l’Azawad has abandoned its ambition of an independent Azawad state. The MNLA is now ready to join Bamako to drive the jihadists of Al Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) and its local allies out of northern Mali. ‘We are not asking for the recognition of a state but recognition as a serious partner,’ Spokesman Mossa ag Attaher said.
