Commentary: The favoured Sierra Leone People's Party candidate in August 2007's Presidential elections, Solomon lost to Ernest Bai Koroma of the All People's Congress. The traditional SLPP vote was split for these elections after Charles Margai, politician, lawyer, nephew and son of previous SLPP Prime Ministers Milton and Albert respectively, broke away to form the People's Movement for Democratic Change. He had lost the SLPP leadership in 1996 to Kabbah, then in 2005 to Berewa.
