Koroma lashes out

President Ernest Bai Koroma has removed Vice-President Samuel Sam-Sumana from office even though he does not apparently have the powers to do so. Koroma claimed that Sam-Sumana's action in seeking asylum in the US embassy disqualified him from office. The Vice-President went to the US embassy, which adjoins his home, after hearing that government troops were on their way to detain him. Koroma also gave as grounds the fact that the governing All People's Congress (APC) had expelled Sam-Sumana from the party on 6 March.
