Ethics question for Obama

Some 17 years after the bombing of US Embassies in East Africa, relatives of those killed and local staff injured still await compensation

On his first trip to Kenya as United States President in July, Barack Obama will walk into a bitter controversy over successive United States governments' failure to compensate victims or their families after Al Qaida's August 1998 bombing of the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. Legal representatives of the local staff and their families say they have received nothing, other than money to cover hospital and burial expenses. The US Department of Justice (DOJ) appears to backtracking on an agreement to use funds earmarked in a US court judgement on 1 May, they add.
