Avengers assemble

As sabotage attacks and pipeline breakdowns in the Delta take as much as 400,000 barrels per day (bpd), the shadowy Niger Delta Avengers group claims it has launched a new militant campaign to shut down the oil industry. Its targets are the government and the older generation of militants, such as High Chief Government Ekpemupolo ('Tompolo'), who were well rewarded by President Goodluck Jonathan's government for joining the amnesty programme.
