Third term unlucky

The mathematics - let alone the politics - are against another term for President Obasanjo

It was a bizarre political week, even by Nigeria's historically high standards. President Olusegun Obasanjo's advisors openly demanded the immediate resignation of Vice-President Atiku Abubakar after he publicly opposed the campaign to change the constitution to allow Obasanjo to stand for a third term in the national elections in 2007. Earlier, Atiku had tried to arrange a meeting of senior politicians opposed to the third term but the National Intelligence Agency raided the venue.
