Too many cooks

With elections due on 23 May, Premier Meles Zenawi’s government is looking forward to another five years in office. Amid sporadic violence with several deaths, opposition and government are both at last campaigning seriously but the biggest problem for those who seek a change at the top is the multiplicity of parties in the opposition. Both the African Union and European Union will monitor the elections but since they accepted those in Sudan last month, they seem unlikely to condemn Ethiopia’s.
