The new guard steps up

Just before this year’s elections, Prime Minister Meles Zenawi promised an overhaul of the party leadership. the next generation of politicians is edging up the hierarchy in the governing Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front. Leaders of the EPRDF Youth League (1.25 million members) and the Women’s (996,000 members) will enter the top leadership for first time. Deputy Prime Minister Adissu Legesse is expected to resign at the party’s eighth congress on 15-18 September in Adama in Oromia state. Information Bereket Simon and Foreign Seyoum Mesfin have they stepped down as members of Parliament.
