The Carlos card

The odd agreement between Khartoum and Kampala allowing Ugandan troops into Sudan to attack the Lord's Resistance Army was renewed last week till mid-May. For both sides this has more to do with short-term advantage than reconciliation. President Yoweri Museveni longs to be rid of Joseph Kony's murderous LRA. Khartoum's National Islamic Front government believes it will win public relations points without compromising the Islamist International: the nominally Christian LRA is as disposable as was Carlos the Jackal, handed to France in 1994 (but as Usama bin Laden was not).
