West Africa in general - and Nigeria in particular - is suddenly gaining from a re-evaluation of global strategy in the United States following the 11 September 2001 attacks. Relations with Saudi Arabia, previously seen as the guarantor of oil supplies, are now so damaged that the US administration is planning to cut its dependence on Saudi oil
