Concessions clear the way for Bong Mine

Activists won better terms for local communities from the Chinese investors in mine and railway works

Protestors celebrated a victory in September after China Union, Wuhan Iron and Steel Corporation and the China-Africa Development Bank agreed to employ more local people and do more for development in Lower Bong County. The investors will also set up a liaison office to manage community relations. The first shipment of iron ore from the Bong Mine is due now in December although repair works may cause further delays.
